Don't ya hate when you've had a fabulous meal and want to finish it off with a fantastic dessert, but when you get it you realize it was made in a factory in New York, stored in a freezer in Kansas for a couple of months, shipped to the restaurant you're eating in a couple weeks ago, and then they thaw it out and plate it up and garnish it as if it were their own. Well, that's not entirely bad. There are some good desserts out there that are made in New York, frozen and shipped all over the country. I remember one time my wife and I went out to eat with another couple. They were kind of into food and had pretty good tastes and judgment. We went to an Italian restaurant in Chicago that was getting pretty good reviews. On the drive there the wife of the other couple said, "You've got to try the Tiramisu, Its just out of this world". I used to make Tiramisu for my restaurant, but switched to a wholesale product from New York that I thought was outstanding. Saved me a lot of time and trouble and the price point wasn't bad either. So after our dinner, I ordered the Tiramisu and, low and behold, put down in front of me was the same dessert I was buying from New York! I looked at my friend's wife and said, "I guess you haven't tried the Tiranisu in my restaurant!" I then went on to tell them the story about how half the restaurants in the known universe are selling this product and they were aghast. I said what's the problem? Its good! Let's eat! But I don't think it was ever the same for them. A lot of people are like that. So, I am offering my services to come into your restaurant and make you desserts, so you can say "all our desserts are made in house!" I think that's a big selling point. So, if you're a Sedona area restaurant and want to say "all our desserts are made in house", contact me. If you're a customer eating at one of your favorite Sedona area restaurants and you think they could use a dessert makeover, please tell them about me and my services. I'm no haute cuisine pastry chef, but rather a down home Bistro dessert kind of guy. A list of some of the desserts I do follows. Plus check my blog and Youtube channel for pictures and videos of me making desserts. You can get to them from the top menu bar. | Description | Sell Price

So, I would come in to your restaurant and with your ingredients, make any of the above 5 desserts and charge $100 for my services. If you had other desserts in mind, we can talk. But, if you took the 5 top desserts listed (excluding the muffins) that would be $350 income for the desserts for a gross profit of $250. Not bad, plus you get to say all desserts are made in house! I've had the poll for the Best Burger in Sedona, Arizona on the home page for the last two weeks of December and the first week of January. I can only hope the low vote totals were because of the holiday season and everybody had something else on their minds besides a burger. I think that a good burger is near and dear to the heart and that its something people really want and would go out of their way for, within reason of course. I remember when I worked in downtown Chicago there was this place called the Bar Double R. It had a country motif and they had about eight burgers on the menu, all named after a character out of the wild west. I liked the Annie Oakley. A half pound, charred crunchy burger on the outside but medium rare in the inside. Cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato and red onion. Pretty basic, but it was darn good. And anytime anyone in my work group had a hankering for a burger, it was the Bar Double R. So, I asked the question here in Sedona and I got a few replies on where I should go for a good burger. Some suggested the Grasshopper Grille, The Tavern Grille, Oak Creek Brewery in Tlaquepaque, PJs Pub, and Red Rock Cafe. So off I went!
I went to the Grasshopper Grille and had the G-Hopp which is a Bleu Cheese burger with bacon, grilled onions and mushrooms. They cook their burgers medium well and they aren't kidding. It was kind of dry and I was glad I finally hit that bleu cheese in the middle for some moisture. My wife had a Cornville Thrill which is burger with Swiss cheese, BBQ Sauce, bacon and an onion ring. Well, there wasn't any bacon on the one we got but there were two onion rings. Neither of the burgers had any lettuce or tomato slices. Technically the menu doesn't say it so you don't get it, but I always gave that with the burgers I served at my restaurant. No matter what combination, I put the lettuce and tomato and red onion on the side. Use it if you want to or not. It looked nice too. These were lonely burgers with too much empty space in the baskets. We did get a dill pickle spear, so that was an unexpected bonus. But, a bit of lettuce and a slice of tomato would have spruced things up a bit. The restaurant itself is pretty casual with formica tables and a worn out wall to wall carpet. The wood timbers looked nice. There's a pool table outside and a dart machine on the inside. Country music playing and TVs with sports on. The all you can eat salad bar was interesting. Before you order that, I suggest you go check it out first. Just didn't seem like there was a whole lot to it. My Bleu cheese burger was $9 and the Cornville Thrill was $8.25. It was all good. We ate every last bite. They had a Chicken Pesto Sandwich special that looked interesting that another table ordered. There's a place called the Full Moon Saloon on 179 in Oak Creek in the back of the Tequa Plaza. The sign out by the street says, "Cold Beer, Great Burgers". I had never been in the Full Moon Saloon before because I thought it was more a bar then a place to eat and I was right. Its a bar with two pool tables and lots of TVs and a couple of Jagermiester drink machines. I think all there was was pizza by the slice and cheeseburgers as far as food goes. So that's what my wife and I ordered. While we waited we played a game of pool. Michael, the owner, went through a door behind the bar into the kitchen. And re-emerged in what seemed like just two minutes with the food. Pretty fast for a burger. Anyway, everything was fine. The conversation with Michael was a lot about the local economy. He seems to be a great guy. Holds fundraisers for charity, likes and organizes car shows and even races his own car! The beer's cold and the urgers are good. Stop in for one, play some pool and watch your favorite sports on TV.
Next, I went to The Tavern Grille in Old Downtown Cottonwood. Nice place, good food and people waiting for tables on a Monday afternoon! So you know the food has got to be good. And it was! A little more upscale than your average bar or cafe. My wife had the Seared Ahi Tuna Salad with avocado, Asian vegetables, and crispy rice noodles on top of spring mix greens with Wasabi Ranch and Ginger Soy Sauce. This dish was beautifully presented with the rare Tuna fanned out and looking good! I ordered the Southwest Sourdough Burger which had pepper jack cheese, green chilies and Chipotle Mayo on grilled sourdough bread. You would think with pepper jack cheese and chipotle mayo you'd get some heat, but I didn't get any kind of heat. Nice flavor though! The giant onion rings were delicious as were the sweet potato fries. This is a very hip and happening place with lots of good looking, young, happy people working and eating there. Nice location. The building its in was once a theater, so a little history behind those old walls. This is one of four restaurants the owner has, the others being Nick's, the Haunted Hamburger and I forget the fourth one. I haven't been to it but the others I have, and they are all great. Especially Nick's, see my review that I did earlier.
Next up was the Red Rock Cafe in the Weber Plaza in Oak Creek just off of 179. You gotta love the place and the people. The food is great and you get good value for your buck which is why its usually filled with locals. Most of the time I go there for breakfast, so looking at the lunch menu was a little different. They have a whole bunch of salads, sandwiches and burgers. I zoomed in on what they call the "Best Burger". After all, that's what I was looking for! Its a half pound burger with Swiss cheese, lettuce, onions, tomato and thousand island dressing on grilled sourdough bread. I was asked how'd I like it cooked. "Medium Rare" is what I said, and it was really medium rare. Very nice flavor to it. A good juicy burger! The fries were the hottest (temperature wise) I've had in a long time. Nice and crispy on the outside and hot and soft on the inside. It was big enough for the two of us, but my wife and I managed to devour the whole thing. The price tag for the "Best Burger" is $9.29 We had a bowl of soup too. Everything is good here! And by the way, Red Rock Cafe did get the most votes for "Best Burger in Sedona" in Red Rock Restaurants online poll. So congratulations Red Rock Cafe! Last Updated (Friday, 12 February 2010 14:38)

Hog Wild Restaurant and Catering, 705 North Main Street, Cottonwood, Az., (928)639-3232, www.azhogwild.com Just a quick note on two outstanding lunches I had recently. One was at Hog Wild in Cottonwood. Its located just before you get to Old Downtown Cottonwood. Its a Chicago style diner type place that has Italian Beefs and Chicago Style Hot Dogs among a ton of other delectable delights including burgers, ribs, pulled pork, beef brisket and pastrami sandwich. I had the Chicago style hot dogs and they were fabulous and authentic all the way down to the iridescent green relish, Vienna style hot dogs and poppy seed buns. Although not advertised as jumbo they were on the large side and two were quite a lot of food. And at just $6.75 for two with fries it was a good buy.The other two people with me also had hot dogs so I didn't see any of the other food being offered close up, but the burgers looked great! Next time, burgers, ribs and a hot pastrami on rye please! ****UPDATE!**** Actually, when I did go back, I had another hot dog, my wife had a beef sandwich and we all split a half slab of ribs and two sodas, $25. Everything was just fantastic! Especially the ribs! Absolutely fantastic! And the sweet potato fries were incredible! $8 for a beef sandwich though and $13 for a half slab of ribs! That's what I would pay in a sit down restaurant with waiters, real plates, silverware and glasses instead of Styrofoam cups! I'll stick to the hot dogs. The ribs were good though...
A few days later I ate at the Orion Bread Company in Old Downtown Cottonwood. My wife and I split the Mediterranean Sandwich with Turkey and hummus and it was absolutely delicious.Everything as fresh as it could be (including the bread)! The sandwich was $8 and splitting it was enough for the two of us. Lots of different types of bread on display (That happens a lot at bakeries). We bought a Minor's loaf. Looks good. Read the paper, caught up on the news, found a cheesecake cookbook, perused it, lounged around a bit, relaxed. Great sandwich. Nice! We'll be back! Last Updated (Friday, 29 January 2010 21:17)
